Gardiner Community Center Board
Minutes: June 19, 2019
 
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by President Carol Hansen Hills at 10:02AM. Also present: Vice President Fran Reynolds, Treasurer Trish Warner, Secretary Herb Cook, directors Mark Nebel, Carleton Posey and Barbara Reavis; Caretaker Andrew Watson.
 
Public Comment / Recognition of Guests
Guests: Gordon Anderson, Ron Reynolds.
 
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the previous Board meeting on May 15, 2019, were approved as presented.
 
Communications
  • Jefferson County Commissioners: Notice of Reappointment of Herb Cook & Trish Warner to GCC Board on June 10, 2019. Terms through MAY 07, 2022.
  • Gardiner Community Church thanked GCC for attractive grounds maintenance.
  • Fran emailed Leslie Locke (Jefferson County executive assistant) about the County Commissioners’ Outreach Meeting at GCC on August 21.
 
Facility Reports
            • Maintenance: Caretaker Andrew Watson:
  • Andrew reported that Dave Kaldahl (Jefferson County Public Works) had inspected the recently completed downstairs bathrooms.
  • Trish requested that Jefferson County repair a leaking outside faucet.
  • Board members authorized purchasing oil paint for the Readerboard.
  • Carol asked Kaldahl to schedule a time to complete the process of refinishing the upstairs floor.
  • Kaldahl told Carol Jefferson County will replace deteriorated boards on exterior wheelchair ramps and send GCC paint for those ramps.
  • Kaldahl reported a damaged exterior drainpipe has been repaired.
           
            • Rental & Scheduling: Fran Reynolds
  • A recently donated shelving unit will be kept in the downstairs storage closet.
  • Current policy regarding the renter’s responsibility for placement of tables and chairs will remain in effect.
 
            • Landscape: Trish Warner
  • Regular maintenance and watering continue.
 
Treasurer’s Report: Trish Warner
  • May receipts $1,133; expenditures $2,162. Cash balance May 31: $18,102. MSA (Herb/Fran): To approve the Treasurer’s Report for May.
  
Old Business
  • Automated External Defibrillator.
    • Barb attended a meeting of the Gardiner Salmon Derby Association Board to answer questions about GCC’s request for a grant of $500 to purchase a replacement AED battery and pads. Battery costs $169; pads cost $67 per set. CCFD#3 recommends keeping two sets of pads on hand.
    • Barb will handle installation of AED location signs upstairs & downstairs
    • Herb will download the Philips AED operating manual to keep on file at GCC.
 
  • Public Relations
    • Gordon Anderson, PR Committee Chair, reported on the Committee’s June 10 meeting attended by Carol, Fran, Barb and Herb. Gordon distributed lists of ideas and potential plans to increase awareness and use of GCC. Board members agreed to prioritize:
      • Jefferson County Commissioners’ Outreach Meeting at GCC on August 21. GCC will invite Commissioners and other County officials to tour the building before the meeting and will request time at the beginning of the meeting to make a brief presentation on GCC.
      • Promotional Flier. Herb will coordinate production of a four-panel document highlighting GCC’s facilities, location and affordable rental rates. Goal is to have the flier available for distribution by August 21.
      • Holiday Potluck. Sunday, December 8.
      • Community Meet-n-Greet. Fran and Gordon agreed to co-chair a committee to plan an event in April or May, 2020. Community organizations, businesses, arts groups and food vendors will be invited to participate. Activities and displays may be both inside and outside GCC.
 
New Business
  • Expiring Board Term. Noting that Carleton Posey’s term would expire before the July Board meeting and that Carleton had elected not to seek reappointment, Board members expressed their appreciation for his dedicated service to GCC and to Gardiner. Thanks, Carleton!
